Sevenoaks & District Football League Round–Up (13/10/07)
Premier Division
Sevenoaks Town A continue to sweep all before them as they recorded their fourth straight victory on Saturday with a 6-1 victory over hosts Sevenoaks Weald. The result was never in doubt although Weald did create a few early chances but once the A team got on top the result was never in doubt. Ace marksman Joe Creasey grabbed a hat trick, Leon Lloyd netted a brace of goals while Ben Agana also added his name to the score sheet.Tom Pattenden netted Weald’s consolation goal. Sevenoaks Town A thus move five points ahead at the top of the Premier Division over second placed Halstead United.
A solitary goal by Fred Lee gave Halstead United a narrow victory over Kemsing United who fought hard to the end hoping to get a break to level the scores. Paul English played well for the losers.
Borough Green United came from behind to earn a point from a 2-2 drawn encounter against Eynsford at Greatness Park. A brace of goals by Paul Foskett had given the visitors a 2-0 interval lead and had it not been for the agility of keeper Danny Ralph the deficit may well have been greater at this stage of the proceedings.Into the second period Dane Keenan reduced the difference with a good header and with Eynsford looking as though they would chalk up their first League success of the season Carl Warburton hit a 25 yard shot on the turn to equalise with just five minutes play remaining. Jay Fraser was man of the match for United. It was Eynsford’s third draw in as many outings.
Ightham recorded their first victory of the season defeating visiting Seal 1-0. The mid-Kent side wasted a host of good scoring opportunities with Martin Reardon, Steve George, Chris Gardner, Ben Mills, Lee Minter and Martin Rowling all being guilty.Even centre back Seb Baker squandered a chance but the saviour in the end was Rowling who capitalised on a goal keeping error, which allowed Gardner to turn the ball back across the goal for the striker to score against his former club. There was a hint of controversy when new signing Stuart Abbott thought he had scored but the referee ruled the ball had not gone completely over the goal line.
1st Division
In the top of the table clash in Division One, leaders Hildenborough Athletic lost their one hundred per cent record as they were held to a 3-3 draw by second placed Kingsdown Racers. Adam Davis scored all three goals for Athletic whose lead at the helm remains at two points.
Ide Hill got back into the action recording a 6-0 success over travelling Sevenoaks Weald Reserves who are finding life difficult in the section after gaining promotion at the end of last season. Tristan Poole netted a double and there were individual strikes for Warren and Billy Cornwell, Tom Mitchell together with James Proctor.
Fleetdown United A and Dunton Green provided plenty of goal scoring action as they shared no fewer than twelve goals and the points whilst Halstead United Reserves made it three draws in four outings as they contested a 1-1 match against Seal Reserves.
But for a foul on AW London’s goalkeeper Orpington 3rd might have gone into the ascendancy but soon afterwards Jason Turner set up Jose Justo who duly obliged to put the home team ahead. The favour was repaid into the second half when Justo made a good run before crossing the ball to Turner who scored from close range to give his side a 2-0 victory.Orpington 3rd had good spells of possession but AW London were sound in defence with 35 year old debutant Jason Daniels playing at centre back due to a long term injury to skipper Nick Hill.
2nd Division
In Division Two the early leaders Otford United 3rd came down with a big bump suffering a heavy 8-2 reverse against Tonbridge Baptist Church who thus take over in pole position. The Church side revelled in the freedom provided by their opponents with Danny Smith grabbing a well-taken hat trick. Also on target were David Cele (2), Graham Towner, long serving Dave Halfacre and Alex Hassan.
Old Boars put up a good performance against the youngsters of Kingsdown Racers Reserves before finally wilting during the latter part of the encounter and going down 4-1. The hosts enjoyed much of the play during the first half although Old Boars came back well for a period before half time although going behind.
With twenty-five minutes play remaining Jonathan Lee Kemp levelled the scores to give the visitors a ray of hope. Guy Howe replaced Tim McLoughlin but gradually Racers got on top forging ahead with Luke Hewitt (3) and Jamie Height being the goal scorers.
In a closely contested affair Chipstead A and Seal 3rd drew one each with Matt Lawrence scoring for the home team while Riverhead United and St. Lawrence Reserves also shared a point apiece as the scores finished at 2-2. Lyle Jackson netted a brace for Saints both goals coming during the first half.
Bottom of the table St. George's (Wrotham) were left still searching for their first victory of the campaign as they went down 5-3 to Hildenborough Athletic Reserves. Athletic dominated the game but failed to convert a number of chances. The match was played in a sportsmanship like manner. Craig Waller (2) Sam Hick, Junior Goffe and Caner Veli netted for the victors.
3rd Division
Kemsing United Reserves promising start to the season continued as they saw off the challenge of undefeated Dunton Green Reserves to win 4-1. Chris Wood scored twice while both Danny Champkins and substitute Graham Barnes got their names on the score sheet. Neil Barnes was sound in midfield for the victors.
Chipstead B goalkeeper Jimmy Warrener made a series of outstanding saves to thwart the Orpington 4th forwards as they strove for the all important deciding goal during the second half with the scores level at one apiece. In an evenly contested first half Orpington 4th took the lead from a free kick, which curled round the wall and into the bottom corner of the net. Five minutes later Chipstead equalised when Reggie Law found Dean Taylor who rounded the keeper to score and keep his record of scoring in each game so far this season.
Defensive errors allowed Seal 4th to take a 2-0 lead early in the second half against Potters FC, this despite the visitors dominating the match. A superb bullet header by Henry Willard followed by a powerful Mike Beverley shot brought the scores level. However, as Potters continued to pile on the pressure a seemingly harmless clearance from a Seal defender in the closing minutes turned into a freak own goal by Jack Wilson to give the village 4th team a 3-2 victory.
Ightham Reserves kept a clean sheet for the second time in a row to defeat Ide Hill Reserves 5-0. Captain Dave Owens gave the mid-Kent side an early advantage, a lead that was increased when Simon Durham, making a rare appearance, steered the ball into the net with a left foot shot.It was one-way traffic during the second half with Durham completing his hat trick after good work by Ben Sharp. The final goal came from centre back Will McMenamin. Player manager Andy Johnson who has been with the Club for 27 years marshalled his defence well and it was good to see substitute Ryan Mills back after his broken leg. Ide Hill Reserves are to be congratulated on their sportsmanship.
Despite strikes by Wes Laker and Gary Smith, Tonbridge Baptist Church Reserves went down 4-2 to Wilderpark Reserves at Raleys Field. It was the Park’s first win of the season, a result which keeps them one place off the bottom rung of the table.
