Select week
Sevenoaks & District Football League Round–Up (29/09/07)
Premier Division
For the second week running Sevenoaks Town A crashed nine goals into their opponents net and on Saturday against Seal they showed they mean to sweep all before them in the Premier Division.
Fielding a strike force and proven marksmen of Dave Wood, Ben Agana, Joe Creasey and Leon Lloyd, defenders are in for a torrid time during the season ahead and somewhat different from the A teams that Sevenoaks have fielded in the past who have struggled in the top flight.
Creasey grabbed four goals; there was a brace for Brad Draper while Fred Masters, Matt Porter and Wood also added their names to the score sheet.
Sevenoaks Weald opened their season and recorded a 2-0 victory over visiting Ightham. In an excellent match the home team played at an amazing pace during the opening quarter and could so easily have gone ahead during this period. Weald received a setback when Paul Dennington was forced out of the match with a knee injury.
However, a Steve Dadson free kick eluded defenders and attackers alike before entering the net to put Weald ahead. Into the second period a quick free kick and strike by Giles Thomas from outside the 18 yard area increased the hosts lead.
Stuart Abbott was cautioned by referee Bill Dack to complete a miserable afternoon for the mid-Kent side.
At Greatness Park, newly promoted Borough Green United defeated Wilderpark 4-1. The scoreline somewhat flattered the victors who rode their luck during the first period coupled with some good goal keeping.
The Park took an early lead when a shot by Anthony Prior took a deflection before entering the net. A quick break following a Park corner saw United draw level when a cross from the left found Darrel Keenan who struck the ball beyond Mark Gouldsmith.
Two second half goals by Carl Warburton and one from Jay Fraser put United into the ascendancy although at the other end the Park squandered good scoring opportunities. The tenacity of central defender Steve Burgess saved the Park on a number of occasions while the subtlety of touches by Paul Burgess made life difficult for the United defence.
1st Division
A hat trick by Adam Davies was the highlight of Hildenborough Athletics’ emphatic 8-0 win over Dunton Green in Division One. Also on target were Mark Young, Andy Catternach, Joe Bransby, Sean Ingleson together with Andrew Fox.
Fleetdown United A grabbed a late winner against visiting Seal Reserves to earn maximum points from a 3-2 advantage. An own goal and a strike by Steve Gilford accounted for Seal’s credits while Westerham 3rd and AW London shared the spoils in a 3-3 drawn encounter.
The Hammers took an early lead through a spot kick but a header by Bill Payne brought the scores level before the half time break. Westerham 3rd restored their one goal advantage after the break but a double strike by James Webb put AW London into the ascendancy only for the hosts to draw level during the last quarter. Darren Bakewell (2) and Mitchell Lloyd netted for the Hammers.
Halstead United Reserves and Sevenoaks Weald Reserves shared the points from a 2-2 drawn match. The visitors went 2-0 up with goals by Alistair Brooker and Dave Stringer but capitulated into the second half conceding goals to Tony Halliday and Russell Tompkins.
Playing their first match of the season Eynsford Reserves entertained local rivals Kingsdown Racers, a match which produced some good football. The visitors came out on top winning 5-2 with strikes by courtesy of Martin Brown (2), Nick Moore, Alan Brown and Ross Martinez.
2nd Division
It was also a good afternoon for Kingsdown Racers Reserves making their baptism in Division Two against St. Lawrence Reserves and recording a comfortable 6-0 victory. Luke Hewitt crowned a good performance netting four times with Steve Baker and Jamie Height also scoring.
St. George's (Wrotham) crashed for the second week in succession, this time conceding nine goals without reply to Otford United 3rd. Luke Blackaby (4), Richard Brown (3). Daniel Moyce and Andrew Knight were the goal getters.
Riverhead United came out on top winning 4-0 against Hildenborough Athletic Reserves at Tonbridge Farm, Crockham Hill defeated Seal 3rd 3-0 while Old Boars got off the mark with a narrow but important 2-1 win over Chipstead A.
Fresh from their commanding victory over St. George's (Wrotham) the previous week Chipstead A entered the match full of confidence dominating the first half and forging ahead with a goal through Sam Miller.
Encouraged by a superb goalkeeping display by Dave Jenkins and inspired by Jonathan Lee-Kemp Old Boars drew level through Tom Cobb. A fine individual strike by Lee-Kemp put Old Boars ahead, a lead they held until the final whistle.
It was far from one-way traffic for Chipstead struck the woodwork and at the other end Guy Howe ballooned a shot over the crossbar. For Old Boars Nick Waite played his first game for five years. Two Chipstead players suffered head injuries, one being taken to hospital to have stitches put in a head wound.
3rd Division
In Division Three Potters FC recorded their first victory of the season winning 5-1 against hosts Nomads Reserves but neighbours Borough Green went down 4-3 at home to Dunton Green Reserves.
Despite goals by Matt Brown, Wayne Burville and Graham Cook poor defending gave Dunton Green Reserves the edge. Capitalising on these errors Brian Smith (2), James Brown and Lee Gower took full advantage.
At Tonbridge Farm goals by Ali Hussain (2), Gary Smith, Graham Cooke, Tim Spring, Rob Towner together with an own goal gave Tonbridge Baptist Church Reserves a resounding victory over Ide Hill Reserves who look to be in for a difficult season ahead.
In a closely contested first half Wilderpark Reserves took the lead against Chipstead B at Raleys Field but a goal by Nick Carter levelled the scores before the half way stage. The visitors took over in the scoring stakes after the restart netting through Julien Pullen. Martin Coleman and Brian Carter scored for the Park.
Kemsing United Reserves bright start to the season continued with a 4-1 win over Orpington 4th. New signing Kevin Nutton scored twice, Man of the Match Danny Champkins added his name to the score sheet as did Chris Wood.
A brace of goals each for Jed Smith and Luke Cathcart helped Westerham 4th to an emphatic 5-0 success against Ightham Reserves. A goal by Dave Taylor completed the scoring and a second win for the Hammers in succession.
